Post-Runoff Interview with KTOK's Reid Mullins

Thank-you to KTOK's morning drive time host, Reid Mullins for having me on this morning to talk about the runoff and about my candidacy for congress.  Reid is a good man and an exceptional broadcaster and I appreciate the opportunity to tell voters about the alternatives in this race for Congress.

Enjoy!

Well Wishes

Tomorrow, voters will go to the polls and determine which of the GOP candidates will face me this November and I have to say, the race for the seat being vacated by Congresswoman Mary Fallin has been very interesting and in many ways is emblematic of the reasons why I chose to run as an Independent Conservative.

James Lankford and Kevin Calvey are both good men whom I believe to have their hearts in the right place.  It's unfortunate that the candidates have gotten so ugly in the run-off with one another over the whole "he said/she said" mess, rather than having substantive debates and discussions over the issues we face as a country and what we face right here in Central Oklahoma.

Why is it there was no real debate scheduled between the two of them?  The problem is that voters are left with only the impressions that are portrayed by media advisers through advertising.  Hopefully, there will be some debates for you to enjoy during the general election.

Both men will be eagerly awaiting the results of the polls and I wish them both well.

Iran Gets Serious

Breitbart is reporting that Iran plans to put on display a vast array of weapons for the world to see and it underscores the importance of issues facing members of Congress.  Forget measuring the drapes and kissing babies during the season of campaigns, it's time to face the seriousness of the Iranian threat to the world and to the United States.

Iran is not a friend to the United States and neither have they been for a very long time.  Their goal is the elimination of the our ally, Israel, as well as destruction of this great country so many have shed their blood to protect.  We embrace freedom, whereas Iranian leadership embraces tyranny.  And their plan this week to display a collection of their weaponry shows that they are turning their nose to any diplomatic relations whatsoever.

There is even talk that President Obama wants to meet with the Iranian president.  I find that distasteful to say the least.

At this point, war is not the answer.  The answer is to use our influence wisely, to use the resource we have available to convince our allies that working with and publicly trading with Iran is not only a bad idea, but it simply fuels the beast.  We need to starve the beast, push them to the table for reasoned negotiations but we need to make sure they know without hesitation that if our allies are attacked and our interests are attacked, we will respond in a way that will make history.

We need real leadership with a record of leadership to speak up in Congress, someone with the ability to say the things that need to be said and to do so with no thought of angering special interests.  We need someone who can make decisions at critical moments, who has been trained to do so without first contacting a pollster or political consultant.

Right now, in the 5th District race, I am the only candidate who can look you in the eye and say "I've been there, I've done that, and I am more than qualified to do that right now."

NatGas Act Needs Approval Now, Not Later

H.R. 1835, also known as the "Natural Gas Act," is a significant solution to our ever-increasing dependence upon foreign oil.  Approximately 70% of the oil we consume in this great country is imported and much of it comes from nations that are far less than friendly to us.

So, in essence, we're subsidizing the war against our own people.  It just makes no sense whatsoever.

As Bob Barr has written in a column for the Huffington Post (not my favorite website in the world), Congress is talking a lot about it, members of both sides of the aisle support it, but it is just stalling and no one is moving forward with leadership to push the issue.

Barr states:
From my experience in the Congress and following a lot of these things as a consultant on the outside, the NAT GAS Act for many months has been competing with our national fixation on healthcare right now. That's the bad news. The good news is that more and more Americans are now focusing on the economy and creating jobs, all of which this piece of legislation will impact positively.
Oklahoma knows a little about natural gas and is one of the nation's leading producers of natural gas we have energy innovators such as Chesapeake Energy and Devon Energy headquartered in Central Oklahoma.  These companies are job-creators and they know that without a question, the Nat Gas Act would stimulate the economy and help create jobs immediately in the private sector building natural gas infrastructure.

Fact:
Natural gas is a clean burning alternative for vehicles and is exceptionally efficient.

Fact:
Natural gas is abundant.

Fact:
The use of natural gas as a vehicle fuel alternative is not only good for the environment, but reduces our dependence upon foreign oil.

Fact:
The Natural Gas Act will create jobs for Oklahoma's 5th Congressional District.

So, why is Congress so slow to act?  Again, it's a lack of leadership and a lack of vision for the future.  For decades, Congress has been reactionary rather than pro-active.

When elected to Congress, it will be at the top of my list of priorities to pass the Natural Gas Act.

Experience Counts...Or, At Least It Should

When an entrepreneur applies for a loan to start a business, generally the banks take their time to decide whether or not to give the loan and the criteria to qualify for a loan can be quite daunting.  Lenders want to know whether or not the applicant has the ability to pay back that loan, what risks are involved and most importantly, whether or not the applicant's business plan can be accomplished.

In other words, lenders want to know if the applicant has the ability to back up his plan with action.

When we survey the problems facing America, we need leadership with experience to meet those problems head-on with decisiveness, a plan of action and the ability to put those efforts into motion and see them through to fruition.  This November, we have to decide which of the candidates for Congress have the record to match their rhetoric.

*Economy:  We need to create jobs, we need to build our economic infrastructure to pay off debt.  When you look at the candidates for public office, I am the only candidate with a degree in economics - and I received my degree from the United States Naval Academy.  Not only did I receive my degree in economics, I have put my education to good use.  I own not one, but two businesses.  I know how to get job creators to Oklahoma because I am a successful entrepreneur and have been for over 17 years.  No other candidate can say that.

*National Debt.  Our national debt is ridiculous and is one of the greatest threats to national security we face every single day.  There are many ways to tackle our debt and the first thing to do is to cut spending and scrutinize earmarks more closely.  The "good old boy" network in Washington creates an environment where everyone is in it for themselves, ensuring they have mechanisms for re-election rather than cutting spending where necessary and getting the best return on our investments elsewhere.  I am the only candidate who is debt-free in my personal life and in my political life.  None of the other candidates can say that of themselves and politically, they are all receiving special interest money and I am not.  They will be beholden to those interests whereas I will not and can get to work raising the awareness of a "zero tolerance" for wasteful spending.

*Illegal Immigration.  I grew up in California and have seen how bad it can be when illegal immigration runs rampant.  Unlike my opponents, my position on illegal immigration is very clear and has been very consistent.  I believe we must secure our borders immediately and require e-verify for all employers to verify the status of their employees.  Businesses who knowingly hire illegals should be punished.  Period.  This has always been my position and there is no waffling for me.  As a business owner, I understand the importance of playing by the rules - I have signed both sides of a paycheck...my experience shows that I can, and will, make illegal immigration a priority.

*Military.  We are still at war and for some reason, many have forgotten this fact.  Our troops have been in Iraq and Afghanistan for 10 years now and I support their efforts, but Congress and the United Nations have worked in tandem to tie the hands of our troops.  As a Navy SEAL, I am a decorated Desert Storm veteran.  We had a clear mission, clear targets and we knew our objectives.  I have worked with the Pentagon and I know that the time has come to set some clear and concise objectives for our troops and when the mission is complete, we bring them home safely.  None of my opponents can say that they have been a part of the world's most elite military force - the Navy SEALs.  I didn't become a Navy SEAL to build my resume' and someday run for public office.  It was a call of duty for me and so is my running for Congress.  I consider serving in Congress another call of duty, a deployment, if you will.  It's not a career path for me, but is rather a call to fix the problems career politicians, lawyers and wanna-be career politicians have created.

You see, experience does matter - and I'm talking about "real world" experience.  Not "career politician" experience.  Real experience where the decisions made on a daily basis could cost someone their lives or their livelihood.  I understand unlike any candidate in this race for Congress how important it is to choose carefully, to make decisions when under the most extreme of circumstances and those decisions are based on experience, education and a commitment to serve ALL of the people of Oklahoma's 5th District...not just special interests.

This November, you have to decide whether or not you're going to elect someone from the two parties that are responsible for the mess we're in, or if you're going to send someone to Congress who has real experience, who is not beholden to special interests, who is a business owner (not a "business man"), who is not a lawyer, and is a person who has no "stars" in his eyes when it comes to Washington.  This November, you have a real choice to make.  You can vote for the status quo - people who have surrounded themselves with people who are part of the problem and not the solution - or you can vote for experienced leadership that is conservative.

I hope you make the decision to become a part of the Dave White Revolution.

Check it out for yourself.

Campaign Contributions and More.

I received an email from a supporter who has been very concerned about campaign finance reform and the problems with contributors "owning" candidates for public office.  He supports my campaign because I receive no PAC money, no special interest money, and have limited my contributions to $100 per person per household.  I take contributions only from people who live or work in the 5th Congressional District.

Campaigning can be very tough.  I've only been doing it for a few short months now while my opponents have been doing it for at least two years and for one, perhaps even four years.  It's not something I relish, other than the fact that I have met some incredible people along the way and increasingly I find that people are tired of the status quo - even candidates who say they aren't part of the status quo.

I invite you to take a look at this website my friend sent me and look at the different tabs, such as contributions, etc. and you'll be shocked, I am sure.

When you contrast these with my contributions, my record and my ability to accomplish what I say I will accomplish - owing no favors - I am confident that you'll join the Dave White Revolution.

The Endorsements That Matter

Candidates today seem to be falling over themselves to get endorsements from this former politician or that former politician or even some salivate at the thought of a former football player (or coach) endorsing their desire to be elected.

It's something that I just don't really understand.

To me, the endorsements of everyday men and women who have something invested in the process, who realize that our nation is better than the people we've elected in the past, are the ones that matter.  I received an endorsement from a gentleman this week and I couldn't be more pleased.  He's not the former Governor of Arkansas, nor was he a football player-turned lobbyist.  He is a good man to his lovely bride and children and is a hard-working blogger.

Steve Long of the Otter Limits Blog fame has endorsed me  in my bid for Congress and I am flattered and honored that he would take the time to sit down, hear the issues and take a stand.

Check out his blog here.

Where did the summer go?

Yes, I know that most of my posts here on this blog are about political, economic issues, but today, I wanted to talk a little with you about an "a-ha" moments that smacked me in the head.

During the campaign, the kids are always involved in one capacity or another and we spend a lot of time together during the summer.  Then it hit me that soon, school starts and I won't have them so close all the time.

And the commercials for back-to-school sales are beginning.  It marks the end of summer and the beginning of a new school year.  Exciting, but sad at the same time.

Academics are important in my home and my kids know this.  My wife, Lisa, and I do our best to make academics fun and entertaining but we have pretty high standards.  It wasn't easy getting into the Naval Academy and my kids understand the importance of an education.  But they also know that I cherish every moment we spend together doing "fun stuff" like going to the water park, seeing a movie, or playing basketball in the driveway.

You probably already know this, but it's still important to note:  Spend as much time as you can with the kids because before you know it, they'll be back in school.

Dave's Primary Predictions

Though I am new to the political insider processes, I am quite familiar with the Oklahoma political candidates and thought I would share with you some of my prognostications for this evening.  I have found some of the races to be very interesting, others, not so much.  Remember - these are not necessarily my votes, but my predictions.  Starting at the top of the ticket...

GOVERNOR
(GOP)
I predict Congresswoman Mary Fallin to win the nomination without a runoff.  Senator Brogdon has run an aggressive campaign and his volunteers have been intensely supportive and they have done a great job in getting yard signs out.
(Democratic)
Lt. Governor Askins has been working exceptionally hard, but Attorney General Drew Edmondson will win in what I predict will be a particularly close race, seeing Askins carry much of rural Oklahoma.

LT. GOVERNOR
(GOP)
Without much effort, State Senator Todd Lamb will win and face Democratic State Senator Kenneth Corn.

STATE AUDITOR & INSPECTOR
(GOP)
Gary Jones, former Republican State Party Chair, will squeak out a victory in this primary because a lot of people remember his promise not to run for State Auditor, but also know that he played a major role in ousting the Democratic trouble-maker Jeff McMahan.

ATTORNEY GENERAL
(GOP)
Scott Pruitt will win in a very close race against the son-in-law of former Oklahoma Governor-turned lobbyist Frank Keating.

FIFTH CONGRESSIONAL RACE
(GOP)
This is obviously a fun race because whomever wins will have to face me in November and that is something I can assure you they are not looking forward to.  My favorite candidates are obvious:  Dr. Roy, Rick Flanigan and James Lankford.  Why?  Because they are not your typical candidates for public office.  They are not attorneys, they are not career politicians and provide a fresh insight for voters.  Roy and Rick are business owners, they understand the nuance of running a business and that, my friends, are what we need in Washington (which is why I am running).

I fully suspect that Kevin Calvey will find himself in a runoff with James Lankford.  And yes, I look forward to facing either of them in the general election this November.

This is going to be a great evening.  Let's enjoy it.

Primary Information

I've been receiving a considerable amount of email from my friends and supporters about the Primary tomorrow and to clarify, my name will not be on the ballot in Oklahoma tomorrow as Indpendent candidates do not have a primary or runoff in Oklahoma.

Which is, in my opinion, rather sad.  Oklahoma should have open ballot access, but the oligarchy within the two-party system that claims to "love free market competition," doesn't do so when they have had the opportunity to put their money where their mouths are.

So, tomorrow evening, my wife and I are hosting a Watch Party at my home and you're invited to attend as we watch the Primary results and see whether I will have a clear opponent come November 2, or if there will be a runoff.  Either way, I'll be on the ballot in November and you can also rest assured that this will be an election cycle both establishment candidates will never forget.

Here is the invitation:

I Told You So: Economy

When the economic destruction of Greece took place, it was a warning shot across the global bow of every industrialized nation to pay close attention to debt ratios. When I discussed this issue previously on this blog, on Facebook and on one of my videos, there were those who could have never imagined that somehow, these problems taking place thousands of miles away might have a larger impact.

I hate to say it, but I told you.
The news broke today that sure enough, Ireland has been downgraded by top credit rating agency, Moody's. Ireland's credit rating was downgraded from AAA to AA2 because of their national debt and weak economic forecast. Ireland has steadily lost financial strength and countries like Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Greece and Spain all trade together extensively and it's no secret how they borrow from one another extensively so when one card in the house of cards falls, they all are in danger.

Does this sound even remotely familiar?

Our national debt is soaring, our economic forecast isn't much better at this point than that of Ireland and with increased federal regulation, more litigation and higher taxation in the future, our prospects do not look as bright as they could be. It's time to act and we must act now.

I am fully confident in the American people and the American dream. I've lived the American dream and without question, we are made of the right "stuff" to get the job done. We have to take action sooner rather than later and this November, we will have the opportunity to do just that.

It's not lost on anyone that our federal government is leading us down the wrong path. Whether it be intrusive laws or increased regulation, our federal government is spending more than it takes in and it creates a problem for us, for our children and for our grandchildren. But not all is lost just yet - we have to be more careful in who we elect and send to Congress.

We have to reduce our spending immediately. And that means we're going to have to sacrifice where some of our pet projects are concerned. We have to focus spending on things that help business, not hurt business. For example, rather than wasting taxpayer dollars on projects like Obamacare, we need to look at critical infrastructure. Roads and bridges must be a priority so job creators can have a delivery system that is consistent and reliable. And I'm not talking about Ted Steven's little bridge to nowhere either.

We must reduce some of the burdensome regulation on small business as well. We need people in Congress who understand what it means to own a business, to create jobs. Small business is the engine to our success and we need to support small business, not tie their hands. We need to immediately make it legal for small businesses to cross state lines to purchase insurance for their employees.

I am optimistic that by November 2nd, you'll see that we need the triple-threat in Washington to accomplish great things. We need someone with a record of job creation, a record of fiscal conservatism and the strength of character not to bow to the whims of special interest. And I am that triple threat.

If you've had the chance to review my website, DaveWhite2010.com, you know that my record of leadership is very unique and I have to confess, diving into the mess that has become of our federal government isn't exactly my idea of a day at the park with the kids. It's hard work that will require skill, experience and the freedom to make decisions that are based on real world experience and not hyperbole extracted from a consultant's talking points memo.

I'll be following this story very closely and giving you much-needed updates throughout the week.
Thank you.

Humble Beginnings, Humble Existence

"To those that much is given, much will be required."  The Scriptures ring true to every single one of us and I remember my youth, my early adulthood and how difficult times were.  I literally started my companies with nothing but a dream and a vision.  To say that I had humble beginnings are the understatement of the century but as things improved and I chased the American Dream, I have not forgotten my beginnings.  It keeps me humble and reminds me that with my success in business and my career, I take nothing for granted and I know that the Creator expects a lot from me.

One of the reasons I have decided to run for Congress as an Independent conservative, independent of special interest money, is because I know that during these difficult times, there are countless people who are struggling financially but want to be engaged in the process.  Some candidates for public office give lip service to the people who may only be able to contribute $50 or $100 to their campaigns, but not me.  Those are the people I want on my team because that is who I am as a person.  I believe that every voter in the 5th District should have a voice and a leader in Washington they know they can contact and not have to get to the back of the line behind the GOP and Democratic power brokers.

Coming from nothing teaches you that every person, every moment has value.  The government is supposed to be by and for the people, not ignore the real working people.  With each passing day, more and more people become engaged in the process, they feel real anger and angst about where our government is headed and as they watch the numerous campaign commercials on television, they see that they are being spoon-fed rhetoric that has been sanitized for their protection and all of the candidates are starting to look the same.

They are certainly all saying the same things, aren't they?

It's true, I'm debt-free and I want my children to be debt-free as well.  Wouldn't it make sense that as a goal, our government should be debt free?  And I don't just mean financially.  Some candidates for Congress have amassed a huge debt in running their campaigns for Congress because they consider it an investment in the best job they have ever had.  For me, I look at it as a call of duty.  A call of duty to remind all of the candidates that they are no better than the people they want to serve and it means that the constituents should not be judged because of their income or what kind of car they drive.

Much has been given this great nation and right now, much is being required.  It's time to put aside all this ridiculous rhetoric and look closely at the candidates and see whether or not they have a legitimate record of leadership.  Most, unfortunately, do not.  They have forgotten their roots, and are now begging for a job.  They NEED this job.  I don't.  I want this opportunity to serve, to move our nation back to where it came from - back to a time when government was held accountable.  Now is the time for the Dave White Revolution.  Be a part.

Debt of Gratitude

Last evening, we hosted a second meet and greet at my home and it's funny how things work out.  What started as a dozen or so confirmations, ended up seeing about 75 people in my home, talking about politics, issues of the day and my candidacy for Congress.

There were some great questions, excellent exchange of ideas and what was most exciting was the diversity of people in attendance.  There were insurance agents, mechanics, housewives, retired military, former federal judges and even a school teacher.  It's humbling to see the looks on their faces when they realize that I am what I say I am and that I do what I say I will do.

With each passing day, more and more people are getting on board the Dave White Revolution to take back our Congress and how we elect members to Congress.

Again, thank you to all who attended and yes, there will be plenty more of these events to come.

Lack of Leadership: Oil Spill

President Obama and in my opinion, the fundraisers we have elected to Congress, have shown no leadership whatsoever.  Here is a video for you to review and think about...do we need more fundraisers?  Do we need more people who talk out of both sides of their mouths in Congress?

What Did Tom Coburn Say?

Today was a Town Hall meeting with United States Senator Tom Coburn and it was an eye-opening experience.  Coburn covered myriad of topics and answered a lot of questions from the audience, including a question from yours truly – which we will discuss in a moment.

Coburn discussed the economy at the beginning and went on to talk about spending as the cause of our problems coupled with excessive taxes.  This is something I have been talking about for years now and as a business owner, I know first-hand how difficult excessive taxation can be to the bottom line.

Responding to a question from the audience concerning what the “Republicans” were going to do when they take back Congress this November to fix some of the problems we’re facing, he said he thought that was a faulty assumption and that he was not so sure the Republicans would have control come next session.  Furthermore, he said that politicians (Republicans and Democrats) make a lot of promises, but when they get to Washington, they forget about those promises and worry about getting reelected.

Someone asked him about the war and referenced both Afghanistan and Iraq.  Coburn said that they are two separate issues and that it seems the President has said we will be out of Iraq in 2011.  He described Afghanistan as needed linking it to Al Qaeda saying we need to go to the source.  The questioner argued that none of our recent terrorists have been from Afghanistan to which Coburn replied that they might not be “from there” but that they likely trained there and that the leaders are hiding out there.  He pointed out how Afghanistan borders Pakistan and other pivotal terrorist nations.

When asked about Immigration Coburn stated that “the glue that holds us together is the Rule of Law” (RoL).  He went on to say that when we disregard the RoL, we dismantle the confidence of the RoL.  He clearly stated that in order to control immigration we have to secure the borders (again, something I have argued from the beginning of this campaign), when he was asked if he would support a law similar to Mexico’s immigration law he emphatically said he would.  He felt amnesty was wrong for any reason and that both President Obama and President Bush had failed and refused to secure our borders had allowed the problem to become intensified.  He felt Arizona should be allowed to do what they needed to protect their state and that the federal government needs to enforce the laws it has.  He went on to say that the Balkanization of America should not be allowed to happen and that America is not about a race or an ethnicity – it’s about the RoL.

When speaking of the serious issues facing our nation, specifically the economy he said that the problem is the politicians in DC.  That nearly 70% of those in Congress have never done anything but work in politics and have no real experience.  Going on to say that career politicians are killing our country.  Coburn described how he is a citizen first and a legislator second, that those in DC often have no clue what the real world issues are.  Does this sound familiar?  Coburn described, in these short sentences, the problems that I will repair when elected to Congress.  Most of the candidates for Oklahoma’s 5th District are emblematic of the problems Coburn describes.  There is no question that we have more career politicians than we know what to do with and now, they are trying to paint themselves as “businessmen” but we all know that they can’t fool us with their slick rhetoric.

When speaking about the budget and pay raises in DC he said Congress last had a raise in 2008 but that they should be given NO new raises or cost of living adjustments until they fix the problems and have a balanced budget.  He said that the average government employee’s salary is one and a half times that of the average household income for Oklahomans.

Coburn said that he supports the concept that ONLY those who can vote for you should be able to donate to a campaign (which is what I have done with my campaign and will continue to do).

Over-reaching Federal Government...Again

As if we didn't already have enough lawyers in Washington, D.C., the federal government again underscores why enough is enough.  Today, the Department of Justice has filed suit against Arizona as well as Governor Janice Brewer because of the "controversial" immigration law.

The problem is that right now, there are too darned many lawyers who are eager to get to Washington - regardless of what their campaign push cards tell you.

Arizona found itself in a place much like Oklahoma did a few years ago with HB1804.  The federal government has done virtually nothing at all to secure our borders and leaving the fence unfinished to our south has proven to be a laughable endeavor.  Since the federal government (which is Constitutionally responsible for immigration) has washed its hands of the problem, the states are left to do whatever necessary to ensure order be established.

Hopefully, the Supreme Court will see quite readily that the states have every right to enforce any law they choose regarding licensing and commerce within their borders.

Here is the problem as I see it:  Both parties have proven to be ineffective on the issue of border security.  Why?  On one hand, the Democrats want the votes and on the other, the Republicans desire cheap labor.  It's a no-win situation for the American people who work hard to pay their taxes and contribute while others just stream across the border and take advantage of our weaknesses.  We simply cannot afford more of the same.  It is estimated to cost the United States taxpayers $300 billion a year and still, nothing is being done.

Right now, in the 5th District of Oklahoma, there are people running for Congress who today have a very different opinion about illegal immigration than they did a few years ago.  In my opinion, they stuck their fingers in the air and decided that if they want to garner favor with the voters of the 5th District, they have to begin looking like a hawk on immigration.  It is intellectual dishonesty and because the activists within the Republican Party seem to have forgotten from where they have come, candidates are allowed to get away with their flip-flopping that would make even John Kerry appear consistent.

You need an Independent voice in Washington - someone who is independent of the special interest groups of the moment who are continually courting and buying your candidates.  You need someone with independent leadership who is a pure fiscal and social conservative who doesn't need someone to write speeches and someone to poll and see what "the people" think is right about an issue.

This problem can be repaired.  We just have to have the courage to say "no" to Republicans and Democrats who take their talking points from special interests, talk a lot, but do little.

Come to my meet and greet this weekend and let's talk about it.

Democrats Prostitute War Funding Bill

We need real change in Congress, friends. I returned from my trip to KWTV this morning after an interview and checked out the headlines and the following absolutely made my blood boil:
"Democrats add teacher money to war funding bill"

The story reads:
"House Democrats, who are trying to pass a long-stalled war funding bill this week, have attached $10 billion to help local school districts avoid teacher layoffs when schools reopen.
The approximately $70 billion measure is anchored by President Barack Obama's $30 billion request for the troop surge in Afghanistan and contains money for disaster aid accounts, foreign aid and disability benefits for Vietnam veterans exposed to Agent Orange."

Why Oklahoma Republicans aren't outraged by this story is beyond me and simply underscores the reality that we need real, independent leadership in Congress next year. I would have been the first to notify and mobilize citizens of the 5th Congressional District and encouraged them to not only call or e-mail the Oklahoma Congressional Delegation, but to contact everyone in their address book to raise hell over the fact that so-called leadership in Washington is doing nothing to stop this kind of reckless spending.

Appropriations Committee David Obey who finds the efforts of our troops in Afghanistan questionable, is determined to make sure this measure carries with it billions of dollars in taxpayer money to help school boards avoid layoffs. Well, in the private sector, Mr. Obey, you don't take money from critical services and pay another. In my business that I have run for 18 years successfully, if I were to call my accountant and tell him to take from the operating account ledger and put the money into the marketing ledger, he would laugh in my face.

Friends, that is exactly what we should be doing in Washington, but too many Republicans are right now busy running their re-election campaigns or campaigns for other offices to pay attention to the elephant in the room.

As a Navy SEAL and Desert Storm veteran, these kind of shenanigans fly in the face of good government and the whole reason why I raised my right hand and swore an oath. You should be as outraged as I am right now.

Call your members of Congress - if you can find them - and tell them to put a stop immediately to diversion of funds for our war effort to what should be a state and local issue to begin with, namely, education.

Just completed a new podcast - an opportunity to get to know me more.  Enjoy!

Get To Know Me More

Supreme Court: Shall Not Be Infringed

Today, the Supreme Court ruled that the framers of the Constitution were right and our right to keep and bear arms "shall not be infringed."  This is a ruling that I completely support and have my whole life, even growing up in the liberal bastion of California.

From the Washington Post:
The Supreme Court ruled Monday that the Constitution's "right to keep and bear arms" applies nationwide as a restraint on the ability of the federal, state and local governments to substantially limit its reach.
In doing so, the justices, by a narrow 5-4 margin, signaled that less severe restrictions could survive legal challenges.
Justice Samuel Alito, writing for the court, said the Second Amendment right "applies equally to the federal government and the states."
The court was split along familiar ideological lines, with five conservative-moderate justices in favor of gun rights and the four liberals, opposed.
Two years ago, the court declared that the Second Amendment protects an individual's right to possess guns, at least for purposes of self-defense in the home.
That ruling applied only to federal laws. It struck down a ban on handguns and a trigger lock requirement for other guns in the District of Columbia, a federal city with a unique legal standing. At the same time, the court was careful not to cast doubt on other regulations of firearms here.
Read the whole of the Washington Post story here.
As a gun owner, a supporter of the right to keep and bear arms, I invite you to celebrate this incredible victory, affirming that which our founding fathers intended for us.

Rove, Beck and the Edmond Sun

My incredible wife, Lisa and I headed downtown to take part in the "Take Our Country Back" tour featuring Glenn Beck and Karl Rove and I have to say, I was exceptionally delighted.  First, spending time out and about with my wife is always a blessing, but secondly, we had a monumental time.

Glenn Beck was moving, entertaining as usual - as was all of the campaign booths set up outside.  But I must say, Karl Rove was incredible.  Rove spent the vast majority of his time talking about how important and intense Navy SEALs are.  He shared a story about a friend of his and to be honest, it was very similar to many of the stories I could share with you as well.

Perhaps, someday I will.

The event was exceptional and we thank News Radio 1000 KTOK for putting on the event.

In addition, I read a very kind and very informative article in the Edmond Sun today written by James Coburn and yes, it was about my candidacy and my position on the national debt.

Read the story for yourself here!

Getting To Know Me...

Had a great session filming and put together a video for you to consider.  I wanted something that covered my history, my record of leadership, my education, my military career and business experience.  In addition, you will see some of my views on current issues that I feel need addressing as soon as I get to Washington.

For me, this election is all about real, experienced leadership that isn't lip service.  When you watch this video, you'll see exactly why I am different from all the other candidates running for Oklahoma's 5th Congressional District.

Enjoy!

The GOP Used To Be "Independent"

For those of us over the age of 40, we can remember the days of Ronald Reagan and how it seemed as though the Republican party was on track to do great things.  It took a while to gain control of Congress, but unfortunately, the Republican party had forgotten one of Ronald Reagan's greatest quotes:

"Government is not the solution to our problems.  Government IS the problem."

The idea that a small oligarchy was to control the vast majority of the message, the direction and the candidates of the Republican party at one time in our history was considered ludicrous.  Today, however, we have forgotten Reagan's words and more and more Republicans leave High School with the dream of being part of the government, looking for work on the taxpayer dime.

That isn't what Reagan intended, it's not what our founding fathers intended, but it is part of the reason we have the problems we do today.

I've been invited to speak frequently to very diverse groups of men and women who all have one thing in common:  They are sick and tired of the status quo that has been spoon-fed to voters over the last decade.  I was recently told that "unless you run as a Republican, you have no chance of winning your race for Congress."  I smiled, realizing that those who believe that are not part of the solution, they are part of the problem.

The Republican party used to believe in competition, trumpeting the cause of free market systems but apparently in politics, some in the Republican party would prefer the status quo.  An Independent conservative with a record of success, a record of proven leadership scares the hell out of some people in the establishment because they know that I can speak the truth without fear of reprisal.  They know that I am running for this post because the people of the 5th Congressional District need representation that isn't owned and operated by special interest money or a small oligarchy.

Another question that arises is whether or not my candidacy could potentially get a Democrat elected because I take votes from Republicans.  Again, balderdash.  My candidacy appeals to Blue Dog Democrats who are fiscal and social conservatives, who believe in the 2nd Amendment and support our Constitution yet are generational Democrats.  In addition, my candidacy appeals to both conservative and moderate Republicans who desire real change from real leadership who has the record to back his/her rhetoric.

Think about it:  When you compare my record of service, my record of success in the private sector and my degree in economics from the Naval Academy to that of my opponents, which of the candidates running right now have the ability to stand up to the likes of Nancy Pelosi and the hardcore liberal elites?  Will a lawyer who owes favors to special interests?  Will a career politician with no tangible real world experience?  I'm a Navy SEAL and Desert Storm veteran - Washington elitists don't intimidate me.  Special interests don't intimidate me and neither does their money.

Someone brought up the race between Gary Richardson, Brad Henry and Steve Largent as an example of how "dangerous" my candidacy is to the Republican establishment.  First off, I am not Gary Richardson - I am not a trial lawyer.  Secondly, while I admire the efforts of a professional football player-turned Congressman, when a reporter sticks his microphone in my face, I can handle it.  Thirdly, Brad Henry ran as a conservative Democrat, but when push came to shove, it was clear that he was not what he said he was and he was and is little more than a career politician just like others running in the 5th District right now.

Let's review:
  • I am not Gary Richardson, a trial lawyer.
  • I am a proven leader with a record to back it up.
  • I am not a career politician.
  • My record of service was not contrived so I could run for office.
  • Republicans who remember Ronald Reagan's warnings will support my candidacy.
  • Conservative Blue Dog Democrats will support my candidacy because I am not bought and paid for by the GOP oligarchy.
  • I am not beholden to any special interest except my God, my family, my country and my brothers and sisters in the 5th Congressional District.
The people of Oklahoma's 5th Congressional District are in for a welcomed surprise.  They will see in me that which they see in themselves - the desire and ability to change how we elect members of Congress, to elect someone to Congress who knows the problems we face and has the solutions to those problems.  They will see that we in Central Oklahoma will once again be the model for other campaigns across the nation.  They will see in me a reasoned, focused leader who knows that this is not the best job I will ever have, but a job that needs to be done by someone who started with nothing, but through determination and belief in the American dream has become successful.

To be sure, there are members of both parties who truly desire to do the right thing.  They are working hard to improve our quality of life, to see Oklahoma live up to its potential.  I see that.  I know that.  On November 2nd, the people of Oklahoma have the opportunity to snatch control of their government back from the grips of special interest.  I humbly ask for your vote to do just that.

I leave you with this to ponder...words from Ronald Reagan.

Father's Day Blessings

As we anticipate the celebration of fatherhood this weekend, I want to share with you what's on my heart as a father to my six children.

First, one of the reasons I am running is that every time I look into the eyes of my children, I realize how horrible their financial future can be.  The last twenty years or so, we've elected fundraisers, not leaders to Congress and they have mortgaged the future of this country and left the burden on them to fix our financial disaster.  It's just not right and as a father, I am duty-bound to do whatever I can to right the ship of our nation's future.

Second, I believe that as a father, there is no higher calling than we lay down our lives for our kids.  We must sacrifice to ensure that our children are raised in an environment that promotes productivity and shuns the "entitlement mentality" in this country - and Republicans and Democrats alike are responsible.

Lastly, we have an opportunity to show our children just as the "greatest generation" did, that there is hope and the status quo is not acceptable.  The political system in this country and in this state is terribly damaged but we have the ability to change the course.  We have the opportunity right here, right now to show our children that there is a different way to elect leaders - true leaders - to Congress.

My thoughts and prayers are with you as you spend time with your family this weekend.  Impress upon them that there is a leader ready to serve the people of Oklahoma's 5th Congressional District without the trappings and bondage of special interest money.  We can do this, friends.  It just takes leadership and that leadership begins with us.

What is YOUR definition of insanity?

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, but expecting a different response.  And we seem to go through this every couple years, don't we?

I have been paying close attention to many of the television commercials for candidates for Congress as well as other statewide candidates and so far, it's all the same boiler-plate message.

"I'm a conservative."
"I believe in the Constitution."
"The federal government is out of control."
"We have to reduce spending."

It's all the same message, just different mouths moving.  As I look at most of these commercials, I ask myself the same question I do every election cycle:  Do these people have the stroke to actually do what they say?

The answer?  No.  They don't.  And we've seen the same results every two years.  If you're a student of the political process, it doesn't take much to research promises made versus promises fulfilled.  And so far, we here in Oklahoma have been promised a lot and delivered little.

You know as well as I do that members of Congress are like a pack of wolves, waiting and watching to see who the "new sheep" are going to be.  They do their research, and just like in years past, the sheep we send to Washington arrive with massive debt to special interests and have to start paying back favors the minute they get there.  They are easy prey for the political drug dealers in Washington.  And it is We The People who suffer.

You see, when I am elected to Congress, the insanity stops.  The leadership knows that my resume' is stronger than most in Congress already.  I am debt-free, I am a walking example of fiscal conservatism, I am a Navy SEAL and will not be deterred from my mission, my call of duty.

My resume' stands on its own merit.  My history of leadership is not contrived, it is real.  I am not a career politician, nor has that been my life's dream like some of the other candidates in this race for Congress.  This would not be the best job I have ever had when elected to Congress, though it clearly would be for my opponents.

As you're watching the insanity on television, the talking heads of politics telling you what they think you want to hear, remember that we have traveled this road before.  These talking heads are cut from the same cloth of the people who got us into this mess to begin with.  It's the same breed of politician we saw in 2004, 2006 and 2008.  Same message, same inability to do that which they say they desire to and frankly, if they can't accomplish these tasks in their personal lives, what makes them think they can when they get to Congress?  Also, remember, there IS a real alternative in this race for Oklahoma's 5th Congressional District.

You have me.  And together, we can make history and stop this insanity once and for all.

Edmond Sun Article, June 11

Thanks to the Edmond Sun for writing an incredible article about me and my candidacy for Oklahoma's 5th Congressional District.  Here is a snippet:

Congress is full of “fundraisers” who are scared to take a stand on any issue until disaster is upon them, said Dave White, an Independent candidate for the U.S. Congress, 5th District of Oklahoma.

“They see these problems that are coming way off in the distance. Yet nobody has the backbone to be fixing those things until the disaster is upon us,” said White, a 1987 Naval Academy graduate with a degree in economics who served his country as a Navy SEAL officer.

Energy Leadership Missing in Action

The BP oil spill has hit the headlines with great fervor and ferociousness, but it appears as though members of Congress just aren't sure how to handle it.  Why?  because we lack real, experienced leadership in Congress.

On one hand, members of Congress and many candidates for Congress are nervous about speaking the truth out loud about the problem because there is hand-wringing about the possibility of losing campaign contributions from the energy sector.  On the other hand, the environmentalist extremists are ranting and raving about shutting down all oil and natural gas exploration and members of Congress who are bought and paid for by the Greenpeace types are ducking for cover.

Where is the leadership?  Oil is still spewing from the Deepwater Horizon and even Matt Simmons, Texas banker and oil industry expert has said that "There isn't enough money in the world to clean up the Gulf.  Once BP realizes the extent of this, my guess is that they'll panic and go into Chapter 11."  There is already over 6,000 state and federal lawsuits filed against BP and with each passing day, the reports are that the number increases.

This is a national disaster and members of Congress need to realize that eventually, the markets are going to respond and if BP files Chapter 11, we will be increasingly beholden to OPEC for crude oil imports.   And let there be no mistake - OPEC is not our friend.

Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, has given a number of interviews about the problems but has shown no leadership whatsoever.  Watching her vacillate back and forth makes me wonder why so many are intimidated by her.  I am a Navy SEAL.  There is no one in Congress who intimidates me.

So, what is the solution?

First, members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee must convene an emergency meeting immediately and call energy experts, biologists, geologists and engineers together and put together a "96 hour plan."  In other words, identify resources to stop the disaster within a 96 hour time frame.

Second, the long term financial cost of this disaster will be billions and billions of dollars.  Already, the ridiculous standards of the EPA has deterred clean up, limiting the materials used to absorb the crude oil.  It's time to stop the EPA from tying the hands of engineers trying to do their job.  The short term cost will be worth the long term economic disaster of the world's 4th largest company filing Chapter 11.

Third, we have to plan for the future.  We have got to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and maximize the use of our natural resources right here in this great country.  Yes, and that includes offshore exploration as well...and we need the energy sector to ensure safety measures and regulatory environments are much like those we have in the great state of Oklahoma.

Now is the time for us to fix the problem with the BP oil spill and do so with an eye toward the future.  We need a diversified energy portfolio that utilizes one of Oklahoma's great resources, natural gas.  We need leadership in Congress who is not in the hip pocket of any energy producer who will stand up and demand that we use all sources of American energy available to ensure our dependence upon foreign oil goes away or is greatly reduced.

That includes wind energy, solar power, nuclear power, natural gas, clean coal technology, and crude oil exploration in ANWR, utilization of amazing technologies to extract natural gas from shale formations and finally, cellulosic ethanol.  And we can do it without government subsidies.  We simply create a regulatory environment wherein there is a balance between environmental concerns and energy production.

With real leadership, we can accomplish this task.  I am that leader.  I have received no PAC money from any group, nor will I.  When you elect me to Congress in November, you will be electing a man to Congress who understands fully that our nation's energy policy is a matter of national security.  National security trumps special interests in my book, and that will never change.  While some of the candidates in the 5th District are scrambling to garner more and more PAC money and more and more endorsements from a myriad of special interests, I am gathering support from the only "special interest" that really matters - voters in the 5th District.

Energy policy IS a matter of national security.  Average Oklahomans understand this, why can't candidates for public office understand this?  Well, I "get it."  And when I get to Washington, so will the rest of Congress.

It's Official - I'm In

Accompanied by my incredible wife (Lisa) and youngest son (Michael), I headed to the state capitol today and filed my candidacy for Oklahoma's 5th Congressional District.  While there, my wife and I took a brief tour to show Michael where legislators meet and it was incredible to see his eyes light up.  Though only six, political discussions in the White household are not unusual and like many of you, I don't candy-coat the issues of importance to my children.  They deserve to know the truth and right now, the truth is that Congress has failed to serve the American people and the people of Oklahoma adequately.

This is why I am running for Congress.

Many of the people I met at the capitol were extremely warm and welcoming, including Ms. Hughes from the Ethics Commission, Michael McNutt from The Oklahoman, Jacqueline Scott from KTOK and Sean Murphy from the Associated Press.  They asked some hard questions and I could see their eyes light up when they learned that I do not shy away from tough questions, but rather face them head-on.

They asked about me running as an Independent and whether or not it creates a place where the Democratic candidate would slide in.  I told them, without hesitation, NO.  This isn't the Brad Henry/Gary Richardson/Steve Largent race.  I put my conservative credentials up against any candidate running for public office in the state of Oklahoma and my long record of proven leadership underscores the credibility of my candidacy for Congress.  I have no political axe to grind, I simply have what I consider to be a "call of duty" wherein the time has come for the people of Oklahoma's 5th Congressional District to wrest back the control of their Congressional District from the consultants and special interests who are looking for a puppet.

I am certainly not a puppet.  I am a proven leader who will not buckle under pressure.  I'm a Navy SEAL.  We don't back down and we don't buckle under pressure.  We do what we say we will do and when I tell you that I am the most consistently conservative candidate running right now, I mean it and my long record of successful, proven leadership stands on its own merit.

We are putting together a team of men and women from all over the 5th Congressional District who represent all walks of life and who desire to send someone to Congress who serves the whole of the District, not just the elite special interests.

When asked, I explained that I have been a Republican all my life and like most voters, have come to see the Republican party become something other than what it once was.  The Republican party is supposed to be the party of smaller, less intrusive government, but if you look at the record of many elected officials in the state of Oklahoma who have claimed to be Republican you find something rather startling:  They have consistently grown the tentacles of government into the lives of Oklahomans.  And there are some of them who are now seeking higher office.  It disgusts me.

Members of the media aren't the enemy in my estimation.  They are men and women who are trying to do a job, trying to find something "different" during the political campaign season that is filled to overflowing with canned messages, produced by the same group of consultants every couple years.  Make no mistake:  I am running my campaign, I make the decisions.  I do have people helping me with my campaign, but the proverbial "buck stops here" with me.  The people of Oklahoma just deserve more, they deserve leadership that is visionary and not fabricated or enhanced with special effects that would make even Spielberg blush.

As we walked away from the 5th floor at the capitol, my wife hugged me and smiled.  My son held my hand and we talked about the questions.  My wife reminded me that I had answered the question about political involvement incorrectly - I had stated that I ran, and won my race for Class President at the Naval Academy.  She reminded me that while a Navy SEAL, not only had I served in Desert Storm, but upon return, had spent quite a bit of time working at the Pentagon.  I smiled.  She's right - as always.

If you're ready to get involved in changing how we elect members of Congress, I invite you to be a part of this new revolution to take back our government.  Send me an email here.  Tell me how you'd like to help - you can contribute the maximum $100 (a self-imposed limit), you can volunteer to knock doors with me, you can host a small meet-and-greet in your home or you can simply tell your friends about the candidate with real leadership experience.

I will fight to reduce the corporate tax burden from 35% to more closely match our international competitors.

I will fight against nationalized healthcare and will fight to repeal "Obamacare."

I will fight to ensure our men and women in uniform are compensated and cared for as Patriots.

I will be a fighter to reduce federal government spending.  I refuse to saddle our children with debt that we can work to reduce in the here and now.

I will fight to create an environment that is productive to create jobs - the government does not create private sector jobs, but as a successful business owner, I know that small businesses must thrive for our nation to thrive.  I will fight to reduce the federal government burden on small businesses including taxes, unecessary regulation and red tape.

I will fight for border security.  By creating secure borders, we save our nation billions of dollars every year and dramatically reduce the problem of illegal immigration.

I will fight for American energy independence.  I believe in a diversified, American energy portfolio that reduces our horrific dependence upon foreign oil by using Oklahoma's natural resources as an example for the rest of the country.

If you want to see more about my policies, my positions on Israel, war, gun rights, education and even the death penalty, I challenge you to go to my website (here) and see what I'm all about.

We can't afford to sit on the sidelines in this election for Congress, vote the party line, cross our fingers and HOPE the individual elected does what he says he will.  By voting for me, you don't have to cross your fingers, you'll rest assured that you have a representative in Congress who has heard the call of duty and will make things happen.

Helen Thomas Should Retire

"Jews should get the hell out of Palestine and go back home to Poland, Germany, America and everywhere else."  Those were the words of Helen Thomas, the 89-year-old Hearst newspaper icon and White House press corps icon.

I have a few words for Helen:  "It's time for you to retire, and though you apologized, your attitude is indicative of the elite press corps."

Israel deserves the support of the United States and the majority of Americans understand the plight of the Jewish people who live under constant threat of terrorism from their neighbors.  Whether it be Iran, the former leadership in Iraq, Hamas, the Taliban or even Al-Qaeda, the Jewish people in Israel have had to fight off the hordes of malcontents throughout history and commentary such as that of Thomas does nothing but feed the fire of terrorism in the Middle East.

One would think that Thomas would remember the horrors of the Nazi regime, the death camps, the mass graves, the attempted genocide.  Unfortunately, her insensitivity and deplorable comments proves that we need real leadership to stand up to tyranny, to terrorism and to confront those who make such outlandish statements against Israel.  The president has embraced Thomas and has heretofore left our Israeli allies wondering just where we stand.

I believe in free speech.  I believe Thomas has every right to say whatever she feels whenever she feels.  But I also believe that those of us who understand the importance of our relationship with Israel should band together and condemn Thomas for her ludicrous comments.

There should be no question whatsoever that this great country supports Israel.  Period.  I have always supported Israel and I make these statements as a former Navy SEAL Officer who served in Desert Storm, not as someone who is looking for a job in our nation's capitol.  I speak as someone with a long history of leadership in the private sector as well as in the world's most elite military organization - the Navy SEALs.  I've seen some of the worst of the worst and Thomas' comments should be condemned by every member of Congress as well as the president himself.

Federal Government Wastes More Time

The Constitution of the United States makes it pretty clear as to what is the proper role of the federal government is to be, but many of our elected members of Congress have seem to forgotten either how to read or believe they are more intelligent than our founders.  The most recent example of this is found in the so-called "Safe Teen and Novice Driver Uniform Protection Act."  The goal of the bill is noble in and of itself, to reduce teen driving deaths by requiring a national standard for licensing.

But we have seen this from our federal government before, haven't we, my friends?  And the aggregate result is nothing like we desired.  No Child Left Behind is but one of many examples.

It is true that driving is not a right, but rather a privilege, yet it is clear to me that this is one more example of the government over-stepping its bounds and encroaching upon the rights of states.  Right here in Oklahoma, for example, we have already addressed the issue and have a graduated-step process for obtaining a driver's license.

More than likely, passage of this bill will result in a Gotti-esque tactic from the federal government wherein compliance will be mandatory in order to receive much-needed highway dollars for the state of Oklahoma.

We need leaders in Washington, DC, not followers.

Senator Coburn's Fight Against Pork

Senator Coburn has been labeled "Dr. No" in Washington and it is for good reason.  He, like many Americans, believes that government spending is ridiculously out of control.

Senator Tom Coburn and Senator John McCain have proposed government cuts to help pay for our war efforts.  This from RTT News:

Senators Tom Coburn, R-Okla., and John McCain, R-Ariz., unveiled two amendments Tuesday to pay for the supplemental spending bill that funds the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
One of the amendments saves taxpayers $60.3 billion by cutting the budgets of members of Congress, disposing of excess and unused government property, auctioning and selling unused and unneeded equipment, and rescinding unspent and uncommitted federal funds.  The second amendment saves $59.6 billion by freezing raises, bonuses and salary increases for federal employees for one year, collecting unpaid taxes from federal employees, reducing excessive duplication, overhead and spending within the federal government, and eliminating non-essential government travel.

Read the story here.

When you elect me to Congress for Oklahoma's 5th Congressional District, you'll find that Senator Coburn has a new friend in the House of Representatives.  I support our troops and their efforts should be fully funded and government as a whole has to tighten its belt to pay for our support for the troops.

Issues: Capital Punishment

I believe there are some crimes that are so heinous that they deserve capital punishment. Our government should have the ability to impose the death penalty in cases where it is justified.

Dave Forms New Oklahoma LLC

I am the proud owner of an Oklahoma business - Game Plan Paper, LLC. Plan the dive. Dive the plan. Where winning coaches, executives, and business owners go for laminated, foldable reference guide supplies.

Why am I sending you this? Because as a competitor myself I know that having a plan, then executing that plan is critical to the success of your mission – and by success I mean VICTORY!

As a former Navy SEAL we had a saying, “Plan your dive, dive your plan.” The problem was, the plan got wet 99% of the time. We would laminate our plans, but then, they would not fold. So we would crush the darn thing down and shove it into our wetsuit and off we would go.

After departing the Navy in 1992, during our last big recession, I found it extremely difficult to find a job, so, as a budding entrepreneur, I created my own.
I took an idea that would allow... laminated paper to fold up perfectly flat by die cutting the paper out at the folds, patented it, and began making a living laminating road maps and reference guides by the millions. Until now there was no cost effective way to do just a few. Game Plan Paper solves that problem!

Issues: Card Check

I firmly oppose card check. An employee’s decision to support or oppose unionization should be made with a private-ballot. Private ballots are a basic American right and if card check were to become law, employees would lack the ability to vote by a concealed ballot, which would open the door to bullying and other forceful tactics.

Additionally, the binding arbitration provision, which requires a government board to come in and set wages and benefits and what normally would be contract terms if an employer and newly recognized union do not reach a first contract within 120 days, serves as a disincentive for unions to bargain in good faith. It is simply not the role of government to force companies to allow the federal government to dictate terms of employment for small businesses.

Issues: Earmarks

I support adopting a moratorium on earmark requests until the process can be reformed. While I support the ability of Members of Congress to target federal funding to high-need projects in their districts, the earmarking process has become symbolic of the out-of-control spending in Washington. I look forward to reforming this process to hold Congress accountable for its spending initiatives and ensure Oklahomans’ hard earned taxpayer dollars are used wisely and frugally.

Members of Congress have a responsibility to be good stewards of the American tax dollar and when you send me to Washington, you'll have a Congressman who believes in good stewardship.  I lead by example - I have no debt myself.  If I can do it, so can our federal government.

The accountability and visibility of earmarking is essential, but the projects earmarked have far too often been regarded has wasteful spending.

Issues: Immigration

Immigration reform at the federal level is long overdue. While Washington drags its heels, states like Oklahoma are forced to adopt a patchwork of immigration laws that add to the chaos of a system already broken. For the sake of both our national and economic security, Congress should act quickly to adopt common sense solutions to close our porous borders. We cannot claim this country is safe nor can we protect American workers and taxpayers when we do not know who is here and whether or not they are working legally.

I support the creation of an employer e-verification system to confirm the legal status of employees. This will enable us to successfully control the flow of immigrants into the U.S. and discourage employers from hiring workers who have come here illegally.

We should ensure that the rule of law always prevails and those who have broken our laws intentionally are not rewarded with amnesty. Additionally, special privileges, like in-state tuition, should not be offered to those living in this country illegally nor should it be allowed for the children of these illegal immigrants.

The operative word here is "illegal."  Other candidates for Congress talk about their stand on illegal immigration when history shows that they themselves have been responsible for part of the problem and have saddled taxpayers with the additional financial burden therein.

I say what I mean, and I mean what I say.  My resume', my positions don't change with the flow of the political and emotional tide as measured by polling numbers.  It requires leadership to accomplish real immigration reform and my friends, I am that leader.
